Business Web Sites: Does Your Business Need One?

By Craig Calvin

Many companies wonder if they need a website. They will ask themselves what are the pros and cons to having one. The following factors should help you make the best decision, if you are srious about your business.

1. The internet is the go-to source for information. Whether you are looking for movie times or restaurant reservations, the internet is the first place most people turn. Could you be missing out on customers and exposure because you do not have a solid, easy to find internet presence? Without a website, the answer is likely 'yes'. Your competitors probably have websites, which means that people who search for your industry are being funneled directly to the competition.

2. If you have a website, you are claiming your place on the internet. A website makes you seem more legit. It also lets people know where you are and when you are open. The internet is where you set up shop and advertise yourself to the world.

3. A website gives you visibility. How do you feel about free advertising? Does putting your name out there sound like a good idea? If so, having a website can accomplish this for very little cost and time. Once you have a website, you can join webrings and business directories that can channel interested people to your site.

4. Providing round the clock customer service is a good reward from a website. You don't have to pay people to man phones. You can advertise your company info on the site, and put any other pertinent information you wish. A potential client will know if you are what they are looking for once they have visited your website.

5. Websites broaden your reach. If you are only reaching your local area now, websites can extend that area globally. A website extends your exposure and reach beyond your immediate area.

There really are not any drawback to having a website. The cost is not even worth mentioning, the time is so little to create one. You can learn to do it yourself, or hire someone to do it for you quickly, and inexpensively. - 16928
