Don't Make These Classic Car Classified Ad Mistakes

By Tom Seaver

People often have trouble when listing classic automoble classified ads to the Internet. I see it first-hand all the time, sellers just don't think when listing their car and it can cause them a lot of problems when trying to sell their classic car. The tips below should help you avoid the pitfalls as an online vintage car seller.

1. NOT INCLUDING A CONTACT PHONE NUMBER!

I tell you what... this is the worst mistake that a classic auto seller can make in an online classified ad. Yeah, you might be thinking, what about e-mail? Yes, technically leaving off any contact information is not a good idea, but most people who are classic car enthusiasts like to call first. Classic car collectors love to call sellers to get more details on the car that youre selling. Believe me, they will call if youve got a good car and they will call often.

2. LACK OF CAR DESCRIPTION

Merely posting the title of a classic auto you have for sale online and a image may get you some calls, but without a decent description the contacts won't be as good or as many. You need to be honest in your ad and give them full disclosure. You are not interested in wasting their and your time. Online viewers are very cautious about classic auto classified ads that have scant details. It simply looks like an ad that is not real and somebody just threw it up on the web.

3. DESCRIBE YOUR CAR HONESTLY, PLEASE

Unless your antique, muscle, classic auto is of show car quality, in I'm talking about the upper 5% of cars in America, don't go over-the-top in sugar-coating the condition of your baby. This will tend to scare people away and those who actually show up to see your car may be less enthused to take it off your hands.

4. GET GOOD PICTURES OF YOUR CLASSIC

Online viewers like to see numerous digital pictures of a collector car at every angle before they they will come and take a look at your car in person. Also image quality is very important. Make sure you have a good digital camera and that you take those pictures in full sunlight. Digital photos that are bad shady, unfocused, overly bright, too small, etc. etc. will not always pique the interest of online classic automobile buyers.

I couldn't recommend more that you take the pictures at every conceivable angle including under the car. I usually take pictures at every corner, down each side, the interior, the dash, trunk, the motor, and floor pan and axle area underneath. Also, don't just take one picture of each angle, take two or three at least and choose the best picture. You will be glad you did once you get back to your computer to get ready to post your classic auto ad.

5. HOW TO PRICE YOUR CAR

This is where doing a little research on your vintage cars value will pay dividends. It pays to understand what your car's value is in relation to what shape it is in. If you have no idea how to judge this, you may even want to find a collectible car appraiser who can certify the price range of your car as a trusted third party.

When placing a price your classic car you don't need to go too high or too low. Go too high on a selling price and you can scare off potential buyers. One of the things that people do when when a price their collector cars a little high is that they add the initials OBO which stands for or best offer and people understand that you are pricing the car for sale a little high and are willing to negotiate the selling price. Go too low and obviously you may live to regret it. So knowledge is power and I would say it I made a mistake in this area it would be to price it a little too high, never too low.

Okay there you go collectible car sellers! This is Classic Car Chris at Buy Old Cars.com hoping that you have a great experience posting classic car ads online! I hope that you post your classic car classifieds successfully this year and stay away from all of the easy mistakes people make! - 16928
