Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has been heavily lobbying Michigan state lawmakers and advertising to the public to pass legislation that will ease regulations on health insurance companies.
The law under speculation is one that would restrict the state from having anything to say or do about BCBS of Michigan caring to raise premiums. BCBS of Michigan is not for profit.
BCBS of Michigan is fighting that the law be put in to place, claiming financial disaster if it isn't. They project losing $264 million if it is not, states the Chicago Tribune.
But there's only a month left in the Michigan state legislative session, and BCBS isn't convincing anyone that there's an immediate crisis.
Mike Cox, state Attorney General, thinks that it is not a correct action to push a law through swiftly. He doesn't seem to believe that there is anything that cannot be avoided here.
"There's no reason this can't be done in February or March or April, and done the right way," stated Cox. Obviously he feels this issue can wait until next year. - 16928
