Your Family means too much to go without Family Health Insurance

By Jeff Cline

What is one surefire way to add financial security to your family? Obtaining adequate family health insurance. It is also important because it aids in keeping the family health. Early diagnosis means early treatment.

Here we will offer some advice and resources for making the most of your family health insurance. To many people make costly mistakes by simply not understanding health insurance. Read on, do not be one of those.

First things first, once you have found a plan that you find satisfactory to your families budget and needs you will receive "evidence of coverage". This is a booklet of all the details of the plan and carrier. Taking the time to know these details is the one most important thing you can do. Not knowing can cost you money.

How would you like the insurer to refuse payment due to a small detail? It happens very often. That is why it is important to know the details. Exclusions, limitations, maxiumums, pre authorization and network benefits are all misunderstood if you do not know the details.

One super way of saving you cold hard cash is by maximizing your PPO in-network benefit. By choosing an in-network provider you are given negotiated rates for services and many times you only pay a co pay for the visit. Typicall, the insurer share of the cost with you.

Sometimes it is better to choose a PPO carrier that has your doctor in network. Because if they are not and your not willing to compromise you will pay more out of pocket. The insurer will not help as much and the negogiated rates will not exist.

If you do not know the pre authorization rules you could lose big. If you do not follow procedure they will deny the claim, leaving you to pick up the entire expense. Now that is good reason to understand pre authorization!

The last thing to remember is that every carrier has a customer service person. call them when you have questions. They are there to help. If you used a broker or agent they are also a good resource. You want to be sure to verify your provider is in network and verify your benefits when unsure. - 16928
