Vegas For Your Inner Golfer

By Charles Davis

Las Vegas, Nevada is widely sought out for its masterfully-designed, yet affordable golfing destinations. Sunny and warm for over 300 days in a year, and with temperatures between 58 and 100 degrees, there are over a hundred golf courses to choose from... a destination for golfers from any walk of life.

With greens fees ranging from $120 to $295, the Reflections Bay golf caters to those willing to pay more for an excellent experience. Golf Digest rates this Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in the "Top 100 Best Courses You Can Play", and since 1998, this 7,261-yard golf course has wowed golfers with its 320-acre lake and lush surroundings.

Golfers can expect to pay up to $250 to experience Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt's Bali Hai Golf Club. Its lush scenery stuns and creates a sense of luxury, and with 7,002 yards from the championship tees, this par-71 course will reward its golfers in kind.

For players with intermediate skill, the Painted Desert Golf Club, designed by Jay Morrish and opened in 1987, may be more attractive. Fees range from $69 to $149 for this 6,781-yard scenic desert course, with elevated tees and a forgiving course. The Painted Desert Golf Club was one of the first golf clubs to open in Las Vegas and remains a favorite with most golfers.

The Desert Pines Golf Club features 6,810 graceful yards of golf course, complete with water hazards and pine trees to shade the way. Born from the collective minds at Dye Designs International, fees for this quality course typically range from $35 to $160.

On the cheaper side you have the Black Mountain Golf and Country Club. Greens fees range from $55 to $95 for this Bob Baldock and Gill and Associates designed course. This USGA Links qualifying site offers 27 holes of golf with varying difficulty for all golfers. The course has tree lines fairways and tree framed tee boxes on every inch of the golf course. As the trees add much difficulty to play, they also offer much needed shade during the summer months of the year. At 6,550 yards, the Black Mountain Golf and Country Club seems quite easy when looking at the score card, but the tree presence, small old-fashioned greens, and thick Bermuda rough makes for a challenging day.

Lastly, considered by some the best golf course is Las Vegas you have the Angel Park Golf Club. Self-proclaimed the world's most complete golf experience, this Arnold Palmer designed golf course offers 36 holes of championship golf, a lighted nine holes, and a natural grass putting course. Opening in 1989, this Arnold Palmer designed course has green fees ranging from $65 to $160 for a full round of golf.

There is a golf course for every golfer, for every degree of difficulty and every price range. Las Vegas has it all and provides great whether to enjoy these beautiful golf courses year round. Each golf course would not disappoint and could easily qualify as "one of the best golf destinations in Las Vegas". - 16928
