Much new advancement is being made in the world of mobility and entertainment - Clarions MiND MID is one of the most recent additions in this new world. This new device brings a completely new meaning to mobile navigation devices with features that allow for constant connection. Connecting with your car, and utilizing GPS functionality, is now a breeze.
While the overall functionality is similar to other products, Clarion has extensive expertise that played a big role in the intuitive nature of the car and the device itself. The MiND integrates so smoothly, with the car, that consumers now experience entertainment in a whole new light.
None of the functionality, available in the MiND, would be possible without its solid backbone: Intel's Atom CPU, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0, together with a GPS receiver, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of flash-based storage.
The MiND would not be near as useful without its 4.8-inch touch screen with 800 x 480 resolution. This touch screen is a bit bigger than many smart phones and GPS systems, giving way to a more visible driving path while navigating behind the wheel.
With Wi-Fi, connectivity consumers can connect to the internet from nearly anywhere. Bluetooth technology allows for connectivity, to the internet, through the use of a cell phone. There are, obviously, limitations on connections. There are not quick fixes, for this model; however, later models should include either 3G or WiMAX technologies.
Clarions MiND MID operates on a Linux operating system, which gives consumers solid performance, along with a user-friendly experience. Users can access many different applications like Google Maps, Google Earth, MySpace, YouTube viewer, email clients, and many more. All of these are ready for you to use, right out-of-the-box.
One of the major downfalls, with the ClarionMiND, is the battery life. Average batter life appears to be anywhere from 90 minutes up to 2 hours. This is, obviously, not sufficient battery life regardless of what you are using the device for. (You can extend the battery life by changing different settings, but again, the max you will see is 2 hours.)
The MiND would not be a true navigational system without access to thousands of points-of-interests, right at your fingertips! Clarion went a little further with this unit however. The MiND ties into the audio system, of your car, whenever it's docked in its docking cradle. This allows for higher levels of musical entertainment - while driving - in addition to a new level of expectation with GPS systems.
Clarions MiND is selling for around $649.99. This price is for the models that offer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth only. There has not yet been a price announced for the models that will have 3G or WiMAX technologies.
